Hi there!
My name is Emma Thomas and I am an illustrator and fine artist based in Essex, England.
I approach my work with an animator’s frame of mind. After graduating from Southampton Solent University with a BA in Animation in 2015, I now consider myself not only an illustrator but also an animator and Visual Storytelling designer. I love every step of the creative process, and I am always bubbling away at some idea or another.
I specialise in children’s kidlit art and illustration, creating highly colourful, exciting works with a sense of humour and storytelling.
In the fine art section of my artistic career, I create paintings and drawings of wildlife and figurative nudes. I strive to approach my fine art with anatomical accuracy as well as storytelling.
I like to describe myself as working “Both sides of the Canvas”, as I not only create the artwork, I also teach in workshops for both young and old. Most notably, I work with young people who are attending art classes adjacent to their schooling. These children are often in need of extra support due to neurodiversity or additional needs.
I am also an experienced Life Model and have established strong connections to art clubs and societies throughout the East Anglia area.
I work under the name “Seaglass Illustration” as I live by the sea on the east coast, and I believe in a philosophy of beautiful things that emerge from patience and resilience. I live with my patient husband, our hilarious daughter and a cat called Bob.
Thank you for looking at my work!
I am an active member of the AOI.
